“Equal Treatment, Equal Access: Raising awareness about people with disability and their struggle for equal rights.”

Amritsar : World Disability Day was celebrated with full fervour and zest in the Department of Education, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar on December 05, 2022. Prof (Dr.) Jaspal Singh Sandhu, hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Guru Nanak Dev University was the Chief Guest of the occasion.
Prof (Dr.) Deepa Sikand Kauts, Dean, Faculty of Education, GNDU, Prof (Dr.) Kuldep Kaur, Chair, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, GNDU, Dr. Sunil Kumar, Nodal officer , Equal Opportunity Cell PWD, GNDU & Dr. Satnam Singh Deol, Head, Deptt of Political Science, GNDU were also present.
After lighting the lamp and seeking the blessings of the almighty, Prof (Dr.) Amit Kauts, Head, Deptt of Education, GNDU welcomed the chief guest and highlighted the special efforts of the worthy VC in launching of the B.Ed special education (MD) Program to produce special educators and making GNDU the first and only university in the North India to have this course. Prof (Dr.) Jaspal Singh Sandhu, focused on accessibility and establishing world class laboratories in the GNDU campus with specialization in Prosthetics and orthotics as it is the horizon of modern treatment and rehabilitative modality.
Further he remarked that to limit the imitations of differently abled and to facilitate them to carry out their daily life skills, good quality facilities should be available. He also acknowledged the hard work of all those working at the grassroots to bring a positive difference in the lives of persons with disabilities.
Prof Sandhu also stressed on developing competencies in the special educators, so that they can successfully create an inclusive learning environment in the class. The students of all the classes, B.Ed special Education Sem.
I&III, M.Ed Sem. I& and B.sc (ECCE) showcased their creativity by decorating the boards in congruence with the theme of the year, “Transformative solutions for inclusive development: the role of innovation in fuelling an accessible and equitable world." The prospective Special Educators also organised and array of activities like Drama, presentation, Choreography to signify the contribution each and every member of the society to acknowledge and respect diversity. A pledge was also undertaken by the guests, faculty members, research scholars and students to create and promote a healthy class room of inclusion respect and kindness.
