NGO’s should be involved in fight against drug abuse : Bandaru Dattatreya

Shimla : While interacting with the officers of police, education and social justice and empowerment departments on the occasion of International Day against drug abuse & illicit trafficking, Governor Bandaru Dattatraya said that all line departments dealing with drug menace should adopt integrated approach and work in coordination to tackle this problem.He said that drug addiction among youth was a serious problem and we should involve the NGOs and religious organization to curb this menace.Director General of Police Sanjay Kundu gave detailed information about the action against drug addiction and anti-drug activities being undertaken by the police department in the state through power-point presentation. He said that the police administration was working with full responsibility and after reaching 1446 Panchayats, contact was made with about 20,722 people to make them aware of drugs menace during the year 2020. He said that during this period awareness campaign was started in 310 schools and 83 colleges and about 45,277 students were made part of the campaign.Hans Raj, Director, Social Justice and Empowerment and Dr Amarjit Sharma, Director Higher Education apprised the Governor about the activities of the departments in this regard.Rakesh Kanwar, Secretary to Governor, Ashok Tiwari, ADGP and Rameshwar Thakur, DIG were also present on the occasion.
