SSP Traffic, CTU Director inspect traffic, parking problems at sector 15

Candigarh : The Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) of Chandigarh, Manisha Choudhary, along with Director Transport, Chandigarh, Pradhuman Singh, inspected and reviewed the traffic situation at the markets of sector 15 on Friday.
Area councillor Saurabh Joshi organised a meeting and interaction program at the Community Centre of sector 15, wherein a large number of the residents of sector 15, 16 and 24 and the members of various market associations met the officials and discuss about the ever growing menace of traffic, as well as parking, in the sector 15.
SSP traffic and CTU director also took a round of the sector to inspect the problem. The engineering wing was asked to put no parking boards at various sites in the sector. DSP Traffic Gurjit Kaur, DSP Gurmukh Singh, SE (B&R) Inderjeet Gulati and SE (Electricity) Kishan Pal Singh were also present on the occasion.
CTU Director transport, Parduman Singh, urged around 300 shopkeepers of sector 15 to ask their employees (around 1500) to use public transport for commuting to work.
He assured more local buses on this route during the working hours. The officials also asked the shopkeepers and their staff to park their vehicles at the backside of the showroom and shops.
The resident suggested stricter checks and challaning in the market by the traffic police during the bustling hours of traffic, from 5 pm to 10:30 pm, and also pointed out the haphazard parked autos, rickshaws and various delivery vehicles in the sector.
The residents also pleaded to install outdoor convex mirrors at various accident prone sites, and raised a need for zebra crossings and dividers for the safety of pedestrians.
The residents also said that police force should be deployed at Apni Mandi, which is set up near DAV School every Wednesday as people park their vehicles in haphazard manner.
Meanwhile, Saurabh Joshi thanked the officials for interacting with residents and for their cooperation in solving the traffic and parking issue. He ensured to organise similar meetings in sector 16 and 24 so that residents can share their concerns.
