District Vigilance & Monitoring Committee reviews implementation of SC, ST Prevention of Atrocities Act in Jammu

Jammu : A meeting of District Level Vigilance & Monitoring Committee was held today to discuss the implementation of provision of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (POA) Act, 1989. The meeting was chaired by ADDC, Jammu Ramesh Chander.
The committee discussed different provisions of the act for protecting the rights of the SC/ST community. During the meeting, the Committee deliberated upon different cases of atrocity submitted before it and it was decided to release necessary financial compensation in favour of the victims as provided under various provisions /offences of the POA act .
It was further impressed upon by the committee that a holistic approach shall be followed for welfare as well as for economic and social rehabilitation of victims of atrocities. It was further deliberated that sensitising masses regarding the POA act is the need of the hour.
Further, the law enforcement agency was directed to take stringent actions against the offenders for creating a crime free environment for welfare of SC/ST communities.
The meeting was attended by the members of the committee Surinder Kumar, BDC Chairman Marh, Renu Kumari, PO, ICDS Jammu, Abdul Khabir, Deputy Director Tribal Affairs Jammu, Mamta Rajput, DSWO Jammu, Swati Sharma, Dysp Headquarters Jammu, Mohammad Sagir (AD FCS&CA), RK Kalsotra (State President All India Confederation of SC/ST//OBC organisation J&K), Keshav Chopra, Samvedna Society NGO.
