Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon reviews progress on establishing CoEs in collaboration with Tata Technologies

Srinagar : Principal Secretary, Skill Development Department, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon today chaired a meeting to review the progress on establishing 40 Centres of Excellence (CoE) for transforming engineering academia in collaboration with Tata Technologies at Civil secretariat here.
During the meeting, detailed deliberations were held on proposed collaboration between Government of Jammu and Kashmir and Tata Technologies for establishment of 40 CoEs, out of which 20 CoEs will be established in the current fiscal, with an aim of ‘Transforming Industrial Training Institutes as Technology Hubs’.
The meeting was attended by Director Skill Development, Sudershan Kumar. Special Secretary, SDD, Mohammad Ashraf; Global Head, Govt. Projects and Skill Development, Tata technologies, Sushil Kumar; Global Director Education and Skill development, Pushkaraj Kaulgud; Project Manager J&K, senior officers of SDD and other concerned officials.
Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Samoon emphasised upon the representatives of Tata Technologies that all the requirements for establishing of these centres should be studied well in advance so that the centres can be made functional well in time.
He directed them to develop smooth coordination and synergy with the management of ITIs of Jammu and Kashmir so that these centres are established timely.While speaking on different aspects of this initiative, Dr. Samoon said that the technology up gradation of ITIs will lead to better employment opportunities for the youth besides it will transform J&K into a potential investment destination for those industry players who are keen on embracing Industry 4.0 and smart technologies for manufacturing.
The Principal Secretary added that this initiative would greatly benefit MSMEs which cannot afford high-end technological equipments as they will be facilitated for usage at the ITIs as well as other technical institutions.
Dr. Samoon further highlighted that through this collaboration with Tata Technologies, we intend to leverage our product engineering expertise and manufacturing domain knowledge to create future-ready courseware and training platform that allow students at ITIs to develop their capabilities in the latest technologies and be part of the rapidly transforming ecosystem.
Pertinently, under this collaboration Tata Technologies will establish Center of Excellence in ITIs for training and skilling, upskilling and reskilling and incubation and startups.
The Tata Technologies will also upgrade the facility by providing and installing new equipments, machinery and technology tools besides training of trainers will also be done in scheduled manner.
The collaboration will also establish an e-learning platform for the students of technical institutions. The Tata Technologies under this initiative will also help in developing relevant and up-to-date course content for new and emerging trades.
Moreover, under this initiative, Tata Technologies will also offer long term NCVT approved courses in Mechanic Electric Vehicle, Advanced CNC Machining, Industrial Robotics and Digital Manufacturing, Artisan using Advanced Tools, Computer Aided Manufacturing, Advanced Automobile Engineering, among others besides short term NCVT approved courses will be provided in industrial robotics, auto electrical maintenance, battery electric vehicle, advanced additive manufacturing, advanced plumbing, among others.
