‘National Consumer Day’ celebrated at Anantnag

Anantnag : The Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Department Anantnag in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Anantnag and Legal Metrology today celebrated the ‘National Consumer Day’ at Khanabal, here.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary DLSA discussed the various provisions of the Consumer Protection Act 1986 aimed to provide rights to the consumers in order to save them from the damages caused due to unfair trade practices.
He advised the participants to know their consumers rights and resort to the Consumer Forum for grievance redressal. He further said that there are legal procedures and laws which deal with the consumer’s rights and consumers should always assert their rights.
Officers of Legal Metrology also highlighted various other features of product sale and said it is illegal to sell any pre-packaged product without MRP, date of packing, manufacturing address, use of sticker for declaring MRP etc said the speakers.
Assistant Director FCS&CA while delivering a key lecture on the consumer rights and the activities of the department shared the rights and responsibilities of the department and the consumer, and discussed redressal of issues raised by the public.
He said that the department has conducted a thorough survey and eligible beneficiaries were provided the category ration cards and the department will continue the process till saturation.
He said that 4000 BPL and 750 AAY ration cards were weeded out. On the occasion 350 ration cards were distributed among the eligible consumers. More than 400 consumers participated in the programme.
The programme was attended by President District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission Mir Gowhar, Secretary DLSA, Assistant Controller Legal Metrology, Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Department, Members Of DLSA, officials of CA&PD, officials of metrology department besides a large number of consumers.
