National Girl Child Day celebrated at Anantnag

Anantnag : An event was today organized by the District Social Welfare Department Anantnag to celebrate National Girl Child Day at Govt College for Women, Anantnag. The event marked the culmination of the Girl Child Week being celebrated in the district under the aegis of ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary DLSA, Mir Wajahat highlighted the importance of creating awareness in the society about the importance of girls. He said that strict legal provisions are in place to prevent sex determination prior to birth.
He said that girls have proven their mettle in every field and there is no rational basis for gender bias. Principal, GCW Anantnag and District Social Welfare Officer Anantnag also highlighted the role of girls in the society.
DSWO Anantnag giving a brief about the achievements of the department under ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ said that this year the Male Female ratio has improved by 22.7 per thousand males.
He said the dropout rate of girls is on the decline and enrolment at the secondary level is increasing. He said that there has been significant improvement in institutional deliveries, ANC registrations and coverage under Menstrual Hygiene Management.
Several girls were felicitated on the occasion. The event was attended by staff and students at GCW Anantnag among others.
