2 day Workshop on “Prevention of sexual harassment of Women at workplaces/Institutions” concludes at GCW Udhampur

Udhampur : The Two Day workshop on “Prevention of Sexual harassment of Women at workplace/Institutions” concluded today at Government College for Women (GCW) Udhampur. The workshop was organized by Committee against Sexual Harassment (CASH) in collaboration with Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and under the convenorship of Dr Seema Sharma (convenor CASH) and Dr Kewal Kumar (Co-Convenor IQAC).
Dr. Savita Nayyar, Associate Professor, Department of Law, University of Jammu and Advocate Yasmeen, Member Juvenile Justice Board Udhampur, were the resource persons of the workshop.
Prof. Kewal Kumar, Incharge Principal of the College graced the event as Chief Guest and lauded the organisers for hosting a wonderful workshop that will definitely aware the girls students as well as female staff about the prevention of sexual harassment at workplace.
The morning session of the Workshop started with the welcome address by Prof. Yash Paul, Department of History. Resource Person, Dr. Savita Nayyar started her talk by questioning the students whether they have faced any kind of harassment in their life.
She informed the students about various forms of harassment one can face like; someone tries to touch, grab or make other physical contacts without consent, making sexual gestures towards and cracking sexual jokes.
She said making obscene phone calls is another type of sexual harassment. She said that such awareness programmes are the need of the hour and it should be arranged not in college but also in religious institutions.
Later, she briefed about the Andhra rape case, Nirbhya rape case, Bhanwari Devi rape case and Vishakha Vs State of Rajasthan case, Rupan Deol Bajaj Vs Kanwar Pal Singh Gill case. She also discussed the laws and articles regarding prevention of sexual harassment of women as well as men mentioned in Constitution of India especially Article 354, 354(A) and 509.
In the evening, a technical session was conducted where both the resource persons interacted with the students and faculty. They listened to their problems or issues of any kind related to harassment they had faced in their life.
Many students shared their experiences on sexual harassment they faced in their daily routines. The Resource persons in turn provided possible solutions to the problems raised by the students and faculty of the college.
As many as 139 students of the college attended the workshop very patiently. The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Sandhya Rajput, a student of Sem-I, while formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Ashok Kumar.
Among others, Kewal Kumar, Associate Prof. of Chemistry, Ashni Devi, Associate Prof. of Botany, Dr. Mool Raj, Associate Professor of Urdu, Sarika Mahajan, Assistant Professor of Electronics. Dr. Kewal Kumar, Co-convenor IQAC, Parmjeet Singh, Assistant Prof. of Computer Science, Tania Akhter, Assistant Prof. of English, Yash Paul, Assistant Professor of History, Tania Mahajan, Assistant Prof. of Zoology, Dr. Shaveta Sharma, Assistant Professor of Political Science, Rajinder Singh, Assistant Professor of Punjabi Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Assistant Prof. of Music, Yash Kumar, Assistant Prof. of Music, Arun Gupta, Librarian and Anju Sharma were graced the event with their benign presence.
