49 families become legal owners of their houses after 74 years under Basera Scheme

Khanna : The day turned out to be a blessing for almost 60 families living in Chhotta Khanna since 1947 when Cabinet Minister Gurkirat Singh handed over the allotment certificates to them, making them the legal owners of the houses. These houses fall under ward number 26 and 27.It is pertinent to mention that these families were rendered homeless during partition in 1947 and the people of Khanna had given them shelter in the vacant houses. But ever since, despite repeated promises by the successive governments none actually took their dwelling rights with seriousness and their requests fell on deaf ears.

However, having become the Chief Minister Charantjit Singh Channi was approached by MLA Khanna and cabinet minister Gurkirat Singh for giving the allotment certificate to these residents. As a result, each one of these families were taken under the wings of “Basera Scheme” and given the allotment certificates of the houses that they were living in.“It is with the help of cabinet minister Gurkirat Singh that we have become the lawful owners of our houses after a span of 74 years,” stated a group of women living in these houses. The cabinet minister Gurkirat Singh while distributing the certificates stated that it was an honour for him to give the possession of the houses. “ I am thankful to the worthy chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi fir taking this initiative and expediting the process.Being a proud Indian, it gives me immense pleasure to give you what is rightfully yours. You all are a part of India which is a nation that stands for its people,” the minister went on to add.
