Deputy Commissioner orders to set up wireless system at important places inside Dhusi Bandh to strenthan flood protection efforts

Drainage department to remain in touch with Pong and Bhakra dam Management besides reporting of daily rainfall

Kapurthala : Deputy Commissioner Kapurthala Deepti Uppal today reviewed the flood control arrangements in the district in view of the upcoming monsoon season.During a meeting of top officials of Police, Additional Deputy Commissioners, Drainage, Water Supply, Public Works Department, Revenue Department and other departments at the local district administration complex, the Deputy Commissioner asked the officials of drainage department to remain in touch with officials of BBMB to keep a close eye of water level in Pong and Bhakra Dam in coming days. They also aksed to submit the daily report on rainfall.Besides that she also asked them to set up a wireless system at important locations inside the Dhushi bandh area for better communication in any unwanted situation.Drainage department officials said that In this regard a control room has also been set up by the Drainage Department, the number of which is 73408-13228.Apart from this the District Revenue Officer informed that a district level control room has also been set up, the number of which is 01822-231990.She also said that special attention should be paid to the people living along the banks of Beas and Sutlej rivers by visiting the Dhusi bandh in Kapurthala district of both the rivers and identifying the weak points and strengthening them.She also directed to arrange sacks, sand, water boats etc. in advance to deal with any untoward situation.Officials said that 26 high-risk villages have been identified inside the dhusi bandh .Deputy commissioner also informed that the district administration has also installed stone studs on the banks of Beas river to prevent floods at a cost of Rs. 1 crore 80 lakh. 12000 acres of land has been saved from the river by installing studs at Karmuwala Pattan Dhilwan area, Ahli Kalan etc.She asked the SDRF to share boats, rescue operations plan, list of divers etc. with the district administration to deal with any adverse situation.Apart from this the health department was asked to provide medicines and lists to the district administration by forming health teams.
