Foundation Stone of Govt. Senior Secondary School, Sector 65 laid

Triple storey building to come up in one year; Project cost Rs. 13 crore

S.A.S. Nagar : The foundation stone of Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 65 was laid jointly by Tript Rajinder Bajwa, Minister for Rural Development, Vijay Inder Singla, Education Minister and Balbir Sidhu, Health Minister Punjab on Monday.Speaking on the occasion, Tript Rajinder Bajwa who also holds the charge of Higher Education Department informed that an ultra-modern triple storey school with ample open space would be constructed in about 85900 sq ft area. It will house 32 classrooms, 2 libraries and ample laboratories for students of science stream. The school is for class six to class twelve students. “The project cost is Rs.13 crore and construction of the building will be completed in year”, said Bajwa.Cabinet Minister Vijay Inder Singla credited the increase in enrollment in government schools to reforms in school infrastructure, coming up of 12,000 smart schools, commencement of pre-primary classes and performance based transparent transfer policy introduced by education Department. Refuting the probability of the construction process being limited to laying of foundation stone, Singla said, “Unlike the previous government’s practice of laying hasty foundation stones without working out proper project feasibility and fund allocation, we have made provision of funds and tendering for the construction of school has been done with the mandatory clause for completion of building construction in a year.”

Thanking both the Ministers for support in bringing up school in one of the most densely populated areas of the city, Balbir Sidhu said that the existing school catering to the area has a small building and could not handle the pressure of growing student strength; the new spacious campus has been a demand of the people of the area which has today been appropriately met. Talking to media he said that Mohali is being developed as the Medical Hub. The construction of Medical College has been put on fast track while the proposal of new Civil Hospital for Mohali has been prepared and it would come up soon in the sector 66. Two Urban Primary Health Centers at Sector 69 and 79 and a Primary Health Centers at Village Seneta would be completed in 4 to 6 months while the Community Health Center being constructed in Phase-3B1 would also be completed by coming October, said he.Earlier, replying to media query on consequences of meeting of certain MLAs with Party High Command in Delhi, Cabinet Minister Tript Rajinder Bajwa termed the airing of differences in media by some Congress leaders as “unfortunate” and added that “they ought to have approached the Party High Command before going to media.” He hoped for any early resolution of the issue.On the occasion the Mayor of the Municipal Corporation Amarjit Singh Jiti, Deputy Mayor  Kuljit Singh Bedi, Chairman Market Committee Harkesh Chand Sharma Machhlikalan, District President Youth Congress Committee Advocate Kanwarbir Singh Sidhu, various councilors and officials of Panchayati Raj and Education Department were present.
