Battling Poverty, Migrant Children Get Admission In Navodaya Vidyalaya
DC Honors Two Brothers From Handiaya, Appreciates Their Hardwork, Assures All Possible Help
Barnala : Two brothers of a migrant family living at village Kothe Sran, in Handiaya area, have battled against poverty and other odd ends to seek admission at the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Barnala. Sons of a small vegetable cultivator, the duo brothers have created history of sorts in their own family by getting admission in one of the prestigious schools.Vegetable seller Sarvesh Kumar’s elder son Suraj has got admission in class ninth, while the younger one Manpreet has got admission in class sixth at the Navodaya School in Dhilwan (Barnala).Appreciating the efforts of these young minds, Deputy Commissioner Barnala Mr Tej Partap Singh Phoolka honoured the two of them at his office. The children were given motivational books and stationery. While interacting with the youngsters he also extended all kinds of possible help for them.Besides securing admission at the Navodaya School, Suraj has also cleared Punjab State Talent Search Exam (PSTSE) and National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) and secured scholarships. Sarvesh Kumar said that he is a native of Uttar Pradesh. He has taken 2 acres of land on sharing basis in village Kothe Sran where he grows vegetables and is bringing up a family of 6 children of which his daughter has been married and all his 5 sons are studying. His eldest son is pursuing engineering studies in UP, whereas younger ones Suraj and Manpreet have been admitted at Navodaya Vidyalaya now. The other children are studying in government school Dhanaula.Suraj said that he was studying in government school at Dhanaula Khurd where the teachers guided him and prepared him for getting admitted to Navodaya Vidyalaya. Suraj says that science interests him and wishes to excel in this field, whereas Manpreet wants to be an engineer.Principal of the Jawahar Navodaya School Naresh Kumar said that the kids are now undertaking online classes. He also thanked the Deputy Commissioner Mr Tej Partap Singh Phoolka for honouring the two students.
