Deputy Commissioner Inspects Storage & Security Arrangements For EVMs

Reviews Arrangements For Counting Centres To Be Established For Nine Constituencies

Jalandhar: In view of ensuing Vidhan Sabha polls-2022, the Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Ghanshyam Thori on Tuesday, under quarterly inspection, took stock of storage and security arrangements at District Level EVMs store setup in the District Land Records Society complex.Along with representatives of political parties and officials of election office, the Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the arrangements being put in place for counting centers to be established for nine Vidhan Sabha constituencies. He also inspected the place where strong room would be setup in days to come.  In presence of representative of AAP Harcharan Singh and BSP’s Vijay Yadav, the EVMs warehouse was opened to review the safety, storage and security arrangements for EVMs and VVPAT machines.

The Deputy Commissioner also took a round of place, where counting centre at district level for nine Vidhan Sabha constituencies would be setup besides inspecting the strong rooms for this purpose. It was also informed that the counting centre for 35-Jalandhar Central, 37-Jalandhar Cantt and 38-Adampur would be established in new building at Director Land Records while centers for 32-Shahkot and 33-Kartarpur would be setup in old building.  Similarly, the counting centre for 30-Phillaur and 31-Nakodar will be made at State Patwar School whereas 34-Jalandhar West and 36-Jalandhar North will have its counting centers in Gymnasium Hall and Dining Hall of Sports School/College.Notably, the District Election Officer conducts monthly and quarterly inspection of EVM storage and security as per the directions of ECI, following which the Deputy Commissioner has conducted quarterly inspection. Election Tehsildar Sukhdev Singh, Election Kanungos Rakesh Kumar and Jaspreet Singh were also present.
