Bharat Bhushan Ashu Flags Off Awareness Rally For Making Budha Nullah Free Of Solid Waste

Ludhiana : Punjab Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu today flagged off an awareness rally for educating the masses for making Budha Nullah free of solid waste. Students of 7 city colleges participated in this awareness rally, that was flagged off from near Chand Cinema, here.MLAs Mr Rakesh Pandey, Mr Surinder Dawar and Mr Sanjay Talwar, Mayor Mr Balkar Singh Sandhu, Senior Deputy Mayor Mr Sham Sunder Malhotra, Deputy Mayor Mrs Sarabjit Singh, MC Commissioner Mr Pardeep Kumar Sabharwal, several councillors, were also present on the occasion.While addressing the gathering, Mr Bharat Bhushan Ashu said that students of SCD Government College, Government College for Girls, Kamla Lohtia Sanatan Dharam College, Arya College, Government ITI, SDP College and Government Polytechnic College would visit the areas along the Budha Nullah and educate the masses to not throw solid waste into the Nullah. These students would also educate the residents about segregation of solid waste in their houses itself, besides educating them about the diseases that spread due to solid waste disposal into the Nullah.He urged all the stakeholders to contribute in transforming Budha Nullah into Budha Dariya. He informed that the work order related to the Rs 650-crore Budha Nullah rejuvenation project have been issued after the completion of tendering process and Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh would lay foundation of this project next month.

He said that when the work starts, the Budha Nullah would present a neat and clean look with clean water and beautification of embankments.Mr Bharat Bhushan Ashu said that cleaning of around 14-kilometer long stretch of Budha Nullah is one of the foremost projects in his priority. He said that this project would start soon and once it starts, no person would be allowed to pollute the Budha Nullah. He assured the residents that the work related to Rs 650-crore Budha Nullah rejuvenation project would be carried out in a transparent manner and not even a single penny of the public funds to be used for this project would not be misused at any cost. He thanked Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh for taking special interest in this project and requesting Satguru Uday Singh to lead the task force set up for this project.Mayor Mr Balkar Singh Sandhu informed that pamphlets regarding the same have also been provided to these students and these would be distributed amongst the residents. He informed that to educate the residents for not disposing solid waste into the Nullah, several wall paintings have been prepared along the Budha Nullah, but if any person violates it, he would be fined up to Rs 5,000. He stated that 24 nodal officers and 63 marshals have been deputed by the MC Ludhiana for this purpose, who would keep round the clock vigil along the Budha Nullah.
