Under smart city first phase of city railway station facelift completed: MP Santokh Chaudhry

Rs. 6.26 Crore project to give new look to railway station with façade on lines of cultural heritage

Jalandhar : Under smart city project, the first phase of rejuvenation of Jalandhar Railway station premises has completed and the façade of the railway station will get a new look in the next phase.Disclosing this here today, Member Parliament Chaudhry Santokh Singh who along with Divisional Railways Manager, Commissioner Municipal Corporation, Additional Deputy Commissioner dedicated the Dhwaj Vatika to the people on Friday. Taking stock of the proposed beautification, construction, development of a second entry to the railway station from another side, and heritage look to be given to the station’s façade, Chaudhry said that within two-three months the Jalandhar Railway Station would get a complete facelift. He said that under the smart city project Rs. 6.26 crore is being incurred to develop it as a model railway station.The Member Parliament also mentioned that the railway station would equip with ultra-modern facilities including escalator, foot over bridge etc. as this had been decided for the facilitation of travelers.
He pointed out that the façade of this railway station would be developed on the lines of cultural heritage of Jalandhar as the railway station of Sultanpur Lodhi was developed. It has also been decided that the Jalandhar Cantt railway station will also be developed on these patterns, said Chaudhry adding that after the city railway station, the work at cantt railway station would be started. Appreciating the northern railways for taking the smart city project on a mission mode, the Member Parliament said they had accomplished the work of Dhwaj Vatika within two months at an accelerated pace. He also asked to complete the remaining works at the earliest so that the new facilities could be dedicated to people within stipulated time-frame.Meanwhile, the Member Parliament also reviewed the other projects related to the railways. The DRM Rajesh Aggarwal assured to complete the railway station project in a given time-frame.Prominent among those present on the occasion included Commissioner Municipal Corporation Karnesh Sharma, Additional Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal, and other officers from civil administration and railways.
