Workshop related to Intl Literacy Day at RBU

Kharar : University School of Agriculture Sciences and NSS units of the Rayat Bahra University celebrated “International Literacy Day” and organised a workshop on vermi-compost by Gur Rajneesh, Founder of Enn Aar Organics, Mohali.
Gur Rajneesh discussed the utilisation of waste material and preparation of vermi composting.He introduced the terminology used in this process like vermi composting, Vermiwash and Vermiculture. Vermi composting is a natural process whereby earthworms convert waste material with rigid structures into compost.
He explained the whole process in stepwise wmanner the compost produced in this green process is traditionally and popularly used as a natural fertilizer for enhancing plant growth. He told about decomposable organic wastes such as animal excreta, kitchen waste, farm residues and forest litter are commonly used as composting materials.
In general, animal dung mostly cow dung and dried chopped crop residues are the key raw materials.Dr Amita Mahajan, Head of the Department of Agriculture, welcomed the guests and introduced the speaker.The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Geeta Pandey, Assistant Professor and Prof.A.S. Chahal, NSS coordinator of RBU.
