An Autistic Child Becomes Child Rights Ambassador at CCPCR Foundation Day

Chandigarh : Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights celebrated its 6th Foundation on Tuesday at Snehalaya, Maloya. On the occasion, Mandeep Singh Brar, IAS, DC, Chandigarh was the Chief Guest, and Special Guest of Honour was Prof. Nishtha Jaswal VC, Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla (Ex-Member CCPCR). Also Present on the occasion Sh. Mahavir Singh, Member Secretary, SLSA and Sh. H.S. Sandhu SDM were the Guest of Honour.Sh. Karan Gilhotra, Philanthropist gifted Mobile Phones to 20 students of various Government schools who were unable to attend online classes due to lack of mobile phones. One of the most significant impact of COvid-19 has been children have been dropped out of school due to lack of technology. This step will ensure children remain in schools and continue their education.While speaking on the Occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Nishtha Jaswal said, “She was proud to have gotten a chance to work with Chairperson, CCPCR Mrs. Harjinder Kaur. I recall the initial days of CCPCR formation in 2014 till 2017 were struggling; and but with the positive intent and determination, CCPCR was able to undertake initiatives. I am proud that under the able leadership of Mrs Harjinder Kaur, Chairperson, CCPCR the flag has been raising high.”CCPCR also announced an Autistic Child Mr Shreyas Verma, SOREM as Child Rights Ambassador. The intent is to include children from all walks of life to participate in the making of Child Friendly Chandigarh.

Ms. Mannat and Mr. from Institute for the Blind Sector 26 were awarded certificate and cash prize of Rs 2100. On the occasion, Commission also felicitated Sh. Kapil Sood for being Online Quiz Coordinator. In the Quiz Competition, 45,000 Children participated and learnt about Covid-19, Mental Health, Drug Abuse, POCSO and Creative Workshop through online. Commission also felicitated the Ground Corona Warrior Departments including SJPU, DCPU, 1098, 181, CWC, UTCPS who have tirelessly worked during Covid In her address, Mrs  Harjinder Kaur, Chairperson, CCPCR urged people to come forward and strengthen our states homes through respite care programme. There is ardent need for Community to step forward and work for Children staying at Homes. These States homes provide them with basic food, shelter and security. But we as a Community can help these children shape up their life by providing guidance and assistance. And this can be an important step for children in need of care and protection. On the occasion, Mrs Harjinder Kaur, Chairperson has announced herself as respite care parent. And, on her call 5 other people announced themselves Respite Care Parents.As per the next steps, District Child Protection Unit will provide a list of fit children to the respite care parents after due verification.While Speaking on the occasion, Sh Mandeep Singh. Brar, DC Chandigarh said, “I am proud of the initiatives undertaken by the Mrs Harjinder Kaur, Chairperson, CCPCR. We all need to work in understanding and mitigating gaps which are acting as a hindrance in making Chandigarh a Child Friendly City”.
